in which my computer dies slowly and tortuously like a world war 2 soldier and i try to revive him like a nurse that has fallen in love with him in the 2 seconds we held each others eyes

(word for word my twitter meltdown over my traitor of a computer and how i rose like a phoenix over this challenge(this is a lie))

(August 3 to August 7)

laptop fixing. motherboard repaired(not by me). previously dual boot on windows 10 ubuntu 16.04. post repair grub disappeared. grub restored w admin cmd>> bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\ubuntu\grubx64.efi. grub restored. ubuntu goes into emergency mode
the more i explore online the more i think this bcdedit... was the wrong thing to do. try sudo blkid, fstab or boot into windows and try to undo bcdedit??
booted into windows and went to uefi and windows had switched boot priority. put ubuntu on top but still entering emergency mode apparently i should also turn off tpm, acpi for acpi errors but also seems ignorable so??? yeet i guess
journalctl -xb log. need to research what to parse from this cus girl, 4000 lines..

Cannot get uefi db list - due to disabling secure boot acpi does not cover command response buffer (TPM issue?) couldn't get size 0x80000....00e partition. device appears twice w different sysf paths timed out devicedev-disk-by .device(sudo blkid>see uuid then change in fstab
dependency failed for dev/disk/by-uuid/a4740a0c........ dependency failed for swap (sudo swapon) i can't type out the rest man

anyway in summary for some reason my home partition was not booting. fstab had the right uuid for home(sda7) and swap(sda6) but they wouldn't boot and wouldn't show up in blkid, etc. manually mounting it wouldn't find home or swap.fsck not working either. showed dependency failed
askubuntu said add _netdev dependency since it's needed for mount(im so lost tbh??) . now it reaches login screen but seems to be caught in a login loop now. again it could be either update nvidia driver or (more likely) home has run out of space which is probably why it wasnt
mounting at first and now gets stuck in a login loop
i don't think it's a home space error because...well..because home doesn't show on df -h. atp man i think it would have been wiser to take a backup and reinstall ubuntu. updating nvidia rn. if this doesn't work then im gonna chuck this laptop into a fire. here goes nothing
nope. Not a driver problem. alright then. Backup harddrive, fresh ubuntu install, THREAD CLOSED.
live usb boot repair, grub repair. seem to have run into an ubuntu 16 bug where apt get update fails. trying this from a discussion thread on ubuntu bugs. the tech equivalent of taking horse tranquilisers for a virus i suppose.

it worked huh what do you know maybe I should consider a career in breadmaking because clearly this isn't for me.
In a chilling conclusion to my broke busted and disgusted laptop saga, i decided to finally use diskinternals to salvage whatever ubuntu data i could from my windows and guess what? clean. absolutely wiped out. who would have thought? so about that breadmaking.....
